September 11, 2001 Here is amazing amount of intriguing news stories placed into a timeline and context by Paul Thompson. Thanks to Dane Carlson for the link.
Legislation Related to the Attack of September 11, 2001
The Library of Congress has collected links to
legislation related to the September 11 attacks. This is a handy page for people looking for the exact text and disposition of bills. The legislation is simply listed, by number and title, in four categories: Bills & Joint Resolutions Signed Into Law, Other Resolutions Approved, Legislation With Floor Action, and Legislation Without Floor Action. From here, users can link to the usual information available through Thomas,
including a summary of the bill, its status, amendments, related documents, and the text of the legislation.
Terrorism and Security Collection
The National Academies Press (NAP) offers the full text of several publications related to bioterrorism, laboratory safety, and cryptography, among other topics, for browsing online. Although not all of the titles are new, NAP has collected them on one page for easy access in light of current events.
Thanks to Margie Roswell for pointing these out.
My scratch notes from that day:
What an amazing start to the day, at 9:50 we came here to the comference hall after meeting Dave Burstein in the hall. I'm like this mush be a big fire if there's ash falling right on this building. A plane had crashed into the World Trade Center, apparently a hijacked plane from Boston. Now we heard at a little before 10pm that a plane had crashed into the Pentagon in D.C.
This changes everything... nobody can talk about the patent issues because for all the things going on. It's 10:02pm and we're ready to evacuate the building. At 10:37 the PTo building was considered completely closed and we walked out to the parking garage where Jamie Love had his minivan parked. We got there around 10:45 (only a few blocks away) watching huge swaths of people try to access there cell phones. As we find more and more about the planes that have hit more and more targets and a plane circling Dulles it becomes more staggering how much has happened in these few short minutes. We realize that the ashes falling in front of the PTO from the sky and the water droplets hitting me were probably from the Pentagon explosion nearby. Now I hear a plane southwest of Pittsburgh right by where Cindy might be. My father should know I'm okay if Kathleen managed to get in touch with him. Remembering how nobody could really talk much about patent issues and all that stuff until we left.
It's now 11am and we're in traffic and not going anywhere.
