Subject: new list moderation policy
As I said at the meeting:
Joining this list has always been a moderated process, meaning the
moderator must approve any new subscriptions. Posting messages
to the list has always been an unmoderated process, meaning that if
you're a list member, the message you send to burningass@yahoogroups.com
goes straight to the list without anybody's say so. Both of these
policies remain in place.
However, effective Saturday, April 13, invective, flaming, and ad hominem attacks will not be tolerated. You will be removed from the list without
warning.
The best way to avoid this, if you think you're getting close to the line
between heated respectful debate and wanton insults (and it's wider than
some may think at first), is to take your issues off list and deal with
the person directly, then you can both get back to us if necessary with
the results of your private discussion. I can't stop you from hassling
each other in private, so go for it!
The purpose of this is not to stifle discussion but to implement some
damage control, in the case that someone (or some group of people) gets a
hair up their ass about something. The economy we're working within on
this project simply cannot afford the kind of nihilistic carelessness that
goes into the construction of an on-list flamewar.
Being allowed to re-join the list is at the discretion of the list owner, Jason Claiborne, and the moderators, namely myself and one Ms. Ginger Petunia.
This policy is in effect until one of the other moderators sees fit to
take away my moderator privileges.
Judiciously yours,
-K
