July 6, 2009 If I can knock two things off my list a night, I'm happy. So tonight I'm happy. Got my new hard drive working and duplicated some data that I've only had one copy of for too long. Mostly it's stuff that I wouldn't be completely crushed if I lost, but it's nice to keep around.
Now that I have a ton more storage I can be more flexible as to what data goes where, and I have a nice staging place for when I feel like moving public or encrypted parts of it into the cloud. Right now the laptop is re-compacting my primary encrypted partition after I removed a few gigabytes of old podcasts that I really like, but don't particularly need to carry with me on the laptop.
Divided the new space into a large FAT32 partition for any time I might need to restore some data to a Windows or Linux box, a Apple partition the size of my primary hard drive for bit-for-bit cloning, a Linux partition for plug-in backup (versus rsync) of two other mahines, and one big Apple partition called "Miscellany" for everything else. I think after all that parcelling out, that one is still 250 GB.
In other boring news, I made a huge dinner of chicken thighs, rice, vegetables, and canteloupe and raisin bread for desert. I also have had something like 3 tall glasses of orange juice this evening. I ate like a horse and even though I know I'm full, I don't feel overly stuffed. And all that was before I spent an hour taking care of the lawn today. Perhaps I've been behind on my calorie count and haven't realized it. In any case, I'm all caught up now.
Room is still a mess. Large scale sorting of what's essentially boxed clutter into useful groupings (or the trash) is a task I need a very particular mindset for. Unfortunately I use most of that mindset during my workday, and by the time I get home it's the last type of thinking I want to do. Luckily, it's not like they're going anywhere without me.
