  • Didn't feel like the hassle of Old Harford Road up to the Shoppers with the best prices, so I did loops around the neighborhood blocks on my bicycle until I got enough exercise and then topped it off with the market run to the supermarket across Harford Road.
  • Discovered that my bike headlamp, while flashing, puts out the same signal that the wireless transmitter of my bike odometer does. I discovered this when I looked down to find it thought I was going 35 mph up a steep hill. When it's a solid beam, the headlamp appears to blocks out all other signals and causes my speed to register as zero. I suppose I won't often be using the odometer when its dark because I won't be able to see the screen in the dark anyway.
  • On the not so rare evenings where I don't feel like dealing with people, supermarket self checkout lanes are a godsend. For all the encouragement that shoppers get to bring their own reusable bags, I still get dirty looks when I ask cashiers to put a bunch of produce into my seatpost or shoulder bag.
  • A light rain is coming and going this evening, and the sound of the bell tinkling on Angel's--the neighbor's cat--collar is dancing through the backyard as she makes her evening patrol through the neighborhood.
  • Dot is happy to have me to herself again this evening. It's amazing how possessive a little kitten can get in only two months. I have the same connection with Dot that I had with Colors, the calico I had when I was a teenager up. Colors were inseparable and she was definitely "my cat" from the day I picked her up. She never quite recovered or forgave me the first year I left for college or developed an attachment to anyone else in the family. By the time I came back she just hated everybody. I'm hoping that won't happen again. Maybe I should let my neighbors kidnap her more often.
  • The light rain is making the oil slick up on the road. Baltimore County just called out a rollover accident on Reisterstown road. If you happen to be reading this and planning to get on the road tonight, be careful.
  • Co-worker Carrie is complaining that my blog is too boring lately and that I should write more about her. Carrie also hates bubbles and Barack Obama, but loves goldfish, John McCain and her 350Z (I'm envious of the last one). Yesterday Carrie lent me $1.25 for an "emergency" Mountain Dew from the evil machine in the kitchen. Today I paid her back. If Carrie does anything cool tomorrow you'll read about it first here.
