Alfonso Blasucci, longtime Scotch Plains resident

SCOTCH PLAINS -- Alfonso "Al" Blasucci, 91, of Scotch Plains died Sunday (May 6, 2007) at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Blasucci was born in Plainfield, February 15, 1916. Al lived in Scotch Plains for more than 60 years. He graduated from Plainfield High School and attended New York University.

He worked for many years at Torcon Inc. and Waste Management in Elizabeth before retiring in 2001. His lifelong avocation as a ham radio operator gave him great pleasure and the opportunity to meet people from all over the world.

Mr. Blasucci was predeceased by his wife, Mollie, and his son, Billy.

He leaves behind three loving children and their spouses, Allen Blasucci and Mary Lou Floyd, Janice and K. Joseph Vyzas, Nancy and James Lestrange. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Blasucci, Stephen Lestrange, Mark Vyzas, James Lestrange and Lana Blasucci; and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Blasucci.

The funeral service will begin 9 a.m. Thursday from the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave., Scotch Plains, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains.

Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Plainfield. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
