Candidate Endorsements for Election 2006 Lest I forget, here are my endorsements for residents of Maryland's 8th district.
Ben Cardin for U.S. Senate. It's like replacing Paul Sarbanes with his functionally identical twin. Either way Barbara Mikulski will continue her reign of excellence as the senior senator from Maryland, and I will go from being represented by Sarbanes, Mikulski and Cardin to Cardin, Mikulski and Sarbanes.
3rd District U.S. Representative. I live in a gerrymandered district that looks like a Rorschach blot, so nothing I say will make any real difference. You'll all just vote for the yellow dog named Sarbanes anyway.
Governor of Maryland. I think both candidates are so lousy that if I could make a vote of "None of the Above," I would. Since I don't have that option, I will be abstaining from the race. I imagine that when Martin O'Malley looks at a map of Maryland, he sees a giant pistol-shaped trampoline to bounce him into the Oval Office. Maryland has emasculated the office so badly that even Ehrlich couldn't do a huge amount of damage overall, so it's not that big of a deal.
Kathy Klausmeier for 8th District State Senate. Kathy is great. We need more like her in the Maryland General Assembly.
Eric Bromwell and Todd Schuler for 8th District House of Delegates. Eric is so tuned into the information age, I feel like every time I send him my thoughts, that he's really listening, even if we disagree. I think Eric will go on to do great things for Maryland. Todd Schuler is a real down-to-earth pro-liberty guy and deserves a chance to join Eric in the next (my) generation of state legislators.
Jim Smith for Baltimore County Executive. From what I've seen, he's done a pretty good job, and has been quick to respond to all my questions and concerns.
Vince Gardina for Baltimore County Council. He's done some really good things from my neighborhood, and I believe his background with a Masters in Engineering and police work serves him well in getting to the root of complicated issues and getting the job done.
