Simson Garfinkel

Author of a really cool Unix and Internet security book. Wanted a copy of my photo gallery code around November 28, 2001 and then realized it didn't really suit what he was trying to accomplish. I forgot to send him a tarball and he forgot to send the copy of his book he promised.

He suggested that I should be able to rotate and crop through the website, but I thought that was a lot of power to be allowing the web application. The ImageMagick module for Perl seems to be the solution to the problem.

He wrote: I believe that you are taking the wrong approach to security here. You are taking the approach "I'm not good enough to write secure software, so I will limit the functionality." A better approach, in my opinion, is to say "I'm going to write some software with some functionality, so I will do my very best to limit the ways that people might be able to misuse it."
