ACLU Director finds opposition to Commerce Clause In a November 2, 2005 memo to members, Executive Director Anthony Romero of the ACLU called a ruling by Samuel Alito "that Congress does not have the power under the Commerce Clause to restrict the transfer and possession of machine guns at gun shows" to be one of a number of "troubling positions" he holds. I'm disappointed that the ACLU would feel this way. I think the Commerce Clause has been interpreted much too broadly as of late, and this is one of the things the ACLU should be fighting against. But I guess I'll just have to leave that up to the NRA.
