A reporter from Channel 2 News (I believe it was Kimberly Bookman) showed up at Red Emma's tonight around 19:30. She asked Andrew if she could speak to the manager, and he replied that everyone was a manager. I was sitting at the bar next to where she was standing working on SQL code.

She told Andrew she was doing a piece on "cyber dating" and had been told that Red Emma's was a local "cyber café."

Andrew looked unaffected, and waved over to the other side of the space. "Well, we've got a few computers over there . . ."

"Yes, but everyone seems to have a laptop open here," she said excitiedly. Then she asked if she could bring the camera in to the store and film a few people.

"You'll have to ask the customers if they mind," Andrew told her. She turned to me and said, "You've got a laptop there, would you leave if we brought in the camera?"

I was closing my screen as she asked me, and I looked at her and said, "In fact, I'm leaving right now."

"Is it because I said the word 'dating'?" she chirped.

"No, it's because you said the word 'camera,' and I'd rather not be here anymore."

After stuffing the remainder of my sandwich into a to-go bag, I paid up as quickly as possible and walked out to my car, avoiding the cameraman setting up his equipment right inside the door.

As I got in my car I noticed the ABC News car was illegally parked right in front of me in the bus lane.

I hate TV.
