So this morning I signed away my blogging rights about the content or structure of the RHCE exam. Now, it wasn't going to be an issue since I was just going to fire off an e-mail that said I was an RHCE and then go into really geeky stuff. But unfortunately, I can't do that.

I'm only an RHCT or Certified Technician, which is Red Hat speak for "not quite good enough to be an RHCE."

Without getting into any detail that would violate my agreement, I proud to say that I aced one portion, beating the threshold by 20% and 25% on each. Unfortunately, my test didn't follow the standard time structure because of some technical issues early on and as a result I failed reaching RHCE by a single question on the the first portion.

The instructor apologized profusely during the entire morning (at least the points he wasn't on his phone talking to Red Hat management about the problems), and after lunch wrote his manager's e-mail address on the board. As soon as I got home I wrote a long e-mail detailing the situation to that boss with more specifics and ending it with, "I really believe that I was unfairly affected by this situation and I would like Red Hat to provide me with the opportunity to retake the exam under more controlled circumstances."

If they wanted to cement a loyal customer relationship, this was a pretty good way to screw it up.
