May 9, 2005 Went down to the first day of my Red Hat Certified Engineer class at /training/etc in Columbia, MD. It's slow at times and a tad too fast at others, but it looks like I've got a solid background for picking up the tips and tricks that I'll need to pass the exam at the end of the week. The people in the class seem to be happy to defer to the instructor. I think I may have asked the most questions of him out of everybody.
During the labs people get chatty and I get a little distracted by the guy sitting next to me who likes to clip his Nextel clamshell phone to the back of his tee-shirt and tutor/flirt with the young Navy gal sitting next to him, but a quick tap of my iPod Shuffle play button and I'm in my own world to complete the exercise until the instructor moves on to the next module.
It certainly wore me out, but then I didn't sleep all that well last night. I'll have a better feel for the training tomorrow, I'm sure, but I'm glad I'm there. Plus the soda is free. Seriously. I walk up to the machine, punch the Mountain Dew button and a 12 ounce can just drops out of the machine. It's like a dream. I went back 6 times today.
I discovered this evening that a walk to Super Fresh for cat food isn't so bad when I wear my sunglasses and iPod Shuffle the entire time. It's like being in a little bubble where all pretenses of interacting with the other shoppers is removed. Plus I get to buy my stuff from a computer. Apparently my personal heaven has no other human beings. Go figure.
The Mark Steiner Show was on in the background just now, but I just turned it off because Jerry from Pikesville started rambling on. Isn't there a per-caller limit on his show?
