April 29, 2005 A young salesperson from the Baltimore Sun came to my door this evening. Against my better judgement, I opened it.
"Are your Mom or Dad home?"
"I own this place," I reply dryly.
He seems flustered for a minute, then proceeds to break into a spiel about how with just a few more nice people like me to take a trial subscription to the paper, he will get more money for college. Already the local paper litters my doorstep for weeks on end, and if I don't have a million other things to do on a Sunday besides read a paper, I must be bedridden.
I looked at the four archive boxes of solid paper recycling I forgot to put out yesterday morning and replied, "I'm really not interested, thank you."
Apparently this is agressive young salesman speak for "launch into the hard sell!"
It took me five minutes to politely get him off my porch. He seemed rather dismayed.
Today's irritation was brought to me by the Baltimore Sun.
