undercover police officer The New York State ACLU says: Do not rely on the answer this person gives you if you believe that they are an undercover police officer. An undercover officer does not have to reveal their identity, even if asked. Thanks to Urania Mylonas for posing the question.
This is a useful tip sheet on what to do if you're arrested, courtesy of the ACLU.
Also there's the persistent rumors of UCs using with their targets and then lying
about it in court. I don't know if this is true, but it's certainly
plausible. As someone else pointed out, it's your word against theirs,
and judges believe cops more readily than defendants.
