Lessons learned from the Schaivo case

If you take anything from the Terri Schaivo case, take this:

1. Get your living will and final will in order as soon as you can. Talk about them with your family so they are aware of your wishes. Put them in a safe place and make sure that you have someone you trust who is willing to execute your wishes. Many websites and brochures are available for people looking to do this.

2. Take good care of yourself and eat healthy. Terri Schaivo is in the position she is in because of an eating disorder that caused a mineral imbalance in her body. If there's something you can do to keep yourself in good condition, its worth doing.

3. The United States Government has no compunction against reaching with the full force of law into the personal lives of an individual citizen if they don't feel they are making the right decision. The blame for stuff like this used to fall on Democrats, but now appears to be equally on Republicans. The specifics don't matter, as we are now entering the nanny state. Be compliant and we'll take good care of you. Get out of line and we'll put you in your place, the government says. We need to be vigilant against these intrusions and fight them at every turn.
