Sarbanes to Forgo Another Senate Term (washingtonpost.com)

Paul Sarbanes, 72, who is serving his 29th year in the Senate, is the state's longest serving U.S. senator. He will retire after his sixth term ends in January 2007. He is the senior Democrat on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and the chairman of Maryland's 10-member congressional delegation.
