Joseph Boteler and Open Government Today Delegate Joseph Boteler wrote me back to say that he did not believe his co-sponsorship of HB 73 on the Open Meetings Act had been a good idea, and "after further consideration," sided with Bob Ehrlich in his veto statement and blamed the expense of frivilous lawsuits for his change of heart.
I personlly can't see how even if this was a real issue (how many people do you know are running around suing government on the Open Meeting Acts for frivilous reasons?) I still couldn't put a number on how many lawsuits I would consider okay before the potential for secrecy and collusion in government would be okay by me.
I also really can't express how much I am looking forward to Election 2006 now. It's a big district, but I'm sure I can find someone more concerned with maintaining ethical government than the workload of Maryland judges to throw 20 hours of active support a week behind. Want to be my new state delegate? Call me.
