Oil Spill Halts Shipping on Delaware River Near South Jersey It was only a matter of time before an oil tanker left a nice big oil spill off the New Jersey coastline. According to the AP, on November 27, 2004, the Athos I was carrying 325,000 barrels of oil from Venezuela for Tsakos Shipping and Trading. Around 30,000 gallons leaked into the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
