Voted today Voting at Villa Cresta Elementary School was quick and painless. As I walked in the doors to the gymnasium a little after 11:30 I was greeted by signs that said if you are eligible to vote you must use the Diebold machines and not a provisional ballot. I went straight to the A-C desk with no line in front of it and greeted the election judge with, "Hello, I'm Rob Carlson." She flipped through the rolodex box and handed my paper card over to a gentleman next to me who crossed my name off the list and typed a number into a credit card-sized portable smart-card programmer and handed me both forms.
I walked over to a set of Diebold voting machines which were all pointing inward towards the middle of the room instead of towards the edges as they were in 2002. A fellow named Jeff looked at my paper card and brought it back to the provisional ballot table, although I got to keep my smart-card during his walk. He came back and told me to push the card into the machine until it clicks and then follow the instructions.
Republicans were first on every list on my ticket. Everything seemed to click in the right places and I confirmed all my votes and ballot measures carefully over a few minutes. The vote count when I left for that machine was 98.
As I left I had to ask for my own "I Voted" sticker. She said I could take two if I wanted.
