Understanding Metrorail's Dark Future A very comprehensive post on the failings of the Metro rail system in Washington, DC by DCist. A surprise crack on the Red Line could be an indication of systemic failure, which could take the rail line down for weeks. An escalator in Union Station isn't coming back online for another 3 months. There are major bottlenecks in city crossing, a symptom of track-sharing between the lines. And to top it all off, they're having water problems similar to the ones I had in my house, but $7 worth of triple-foam and caulk aren't gonna solve it.
