General Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE, WI - On April 19, 2001 a group of mostly student peace activists bound for the April 20th peace marches in Washington, D.C. were detained at General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) on April 19, 2002 by orders of federal air marshalls who presented the Milwaukee County Sheriffs and Midwest Express Airlines with a list of members to be questioned about their purposes in traveling to Washington D.C. The students were put up in a hotel overnight and allowed to fly the next morning to participate in the various demonstrations that weekend once the issues were resolved.
