My ad-hoc tiger team test of Chevy Chase Bank account security at a local branch has revealed the following data points:

  • Since I dropped my account down to one that charges for teller transactions, I am no longer recognized by face at my branch, or asked how my house/job/girlfriend are. Slightly disappointing, but I prefer dealing with computers anyhow.
  • My signature has changed since I opened my account and is different enough from the one I use currently to deny me access to $20 without ID.
  • They will no longer accept withdrawals based on factual information about the account, no matter what you might be able to rattle off. This is a good thing.
  • It was recommended that I come in with ID to update my on-file signature in the future. I may sign it "See ID," because I'm inspired by this.

Although it kept me from paying for my own lunch this afternoon, this makes me happy.

O'Donnell Honda's service center is very apologetic right now. They left my oil cap off when I stopped in to get my 57,000 mile oil change. I drove from there to Ocean City, then back, then have been doing my triangle commute for the last 7 days before I finally decided to pop the trunk and satisfy my paranoia.

Well for once, it turns out that I was justifiably paranoid and my engine was covered in oil. I had a drop of oil on the bottom of the dipstick (turns out it was only about a quart low) and couldn't find the cap anywhere. They told me they had one in stock and to please come right in.

I drove from UMBC out to Ellicott City and once I got there, the mechanic found it right on the lip of my hood. Right now I'm having the engine cleaned and washed out with the hose and my oil topped off. Not sure if they'll give me a free oil change out of the deal or not for my extra time out here.

I noticed on the computer that they had arranged for me to get a free oil change for the fact that the survey company was bothering me at work after I asked them twice not to call me at that number.
