February 8, 2004 The install-fest at UMBC was great. Steve Killen's tireless planning really paid off and there was a line of computers stretching through the ECS building atrium being enlightened.
Suzy and I held down the far end of the tables, including a gent who wanted his HP with a 75 gig hard drive converted to a dual-boot machine, keeping Windows around "just for games." Other folks included the Powerbook toting EHS major (not an asshole!), the couple with their very cute IBM Thinkpads and the two guys with the machine with the 8 gig hard drive who had to go through the whole install twice because of a bad Red Hat Linux 9 third install CD.
Thanks to Elizabeth for the pizza, Steve for his tireless dedication and Randy for the humping. There will be a follow-up next Sunday, February 15, 2004 at 1pm in ECS 333.
Afterwards, Suzy, Alex and I went to Double T Diner to raise our blood sugar level and drink away some of the caffeine headaches that we had acquired from injudicious application of Red Bull during the day. Many geeky things were discussed.
Then after dropping Alex at his car, Suzy and I played Soul Caliber 2 until our fingers bled. A word of advice: if you play competitive games with a psych major or a military psyops expert, the secret is to just let your ego run wild and let your fingers do the talking. It also helps to have a dormant subconscious and an overly analytical mind.
Once I figured that out, I seriously kicked her ass, in spite of the "ten year old" comments.
