December 13, 2003 Happy birthday to Tim Farrell!
Even though today started about as quickly as a PDF planning meeting, the evening at Santarchy was an amazing experience. We met everyone around 18:00 at Mad Hatter to squeals of recognition and hugs all around from about 30 santas all collected around the bar. Everyone was well-toasted by the time we got there and before I had time to even consider getting my drink on on the cheap, the bar tab was being rounded up and we were on our way to the gentleman's club next door.
Santa, as always, is a big hit with the ladies and we made quite a few dancers on stage very happy. Santa is all about (besides "the unwrapping of presents"), making sure that both good and naughty girls get what's coming to them. These particular naughty girls were entitled to many dollar bills, and many Santas provided these gifts. After five dancers and three naughty Mrs. Claus (who will remain otherwise nameless here) entered and exited the stage, the bar tab of $480 was announced and the hat was passed around. After I threw in my $20 (two $7 Sam Adams plus some slack for the guy passing the hat), Suz decided she would really like to leave. I felt the same way, so we made our way to the door.
The doorman stopped us on the way out and said that nobody was allowed to leave until everyone was settled up. I told him that we had already settled up with the guy who had been designated to pay the bill and we really wanted to leave. Finally he seemed to relent and I slipped outside into the fresh air. Suz followed a minute later, apparently having not seen me make my subtle exit. The ex-cop bouncer at the door and I had a brief (and amicable) discussion of "kidnapping" versus "theft of services." Suz told me to stop being an ass, and we moved along to Big Hunt.
Now here was a place where I could feel comfortable. I had a Bass and a plate of calamari and enjoyed the company of Patty's co-worker Dave, Malibu Christie, Silver and Suz for a while while Booger and Louis worked the Internet Jukebox on the wall. Alex and Val offered up their place for tea and coffee, and after a brief cat-herding, farewells and a goodbye kiss from Huck we were on our way. The rest of the evening was very relaxing with hot chocolate, Connect Four and good conversation, and we were all very happy to get off our feet and out of our costumes.
