For the baker's dozen of you who care about my occasional absences from the site, I've been busy as sin lately having fun and being a geek.

In a day or so my MidiSport 1x1 unit and cables should arrive. This will finally connect the last of my electronic devices, the Casio WK-1300 into the glob.

I've known since around noon that the power was off at home because I couldn't log into my server, but I half expected it to be back up when I got back. No such luck. When I got back with Alex after a miserable 50 minutes in slow, rainy Beltway traffic, the power was still out.

Luckily I, along with all my neighbors, are now wonderfully prepared for this sort of garbage from BGE. Two generators were already humming away when I pulled into the driveway. I got in the living room, pulled out the marine battery and the inverter, plugged in a lamp and used then next 45 minutes for floor time with Alex, consisting of a round of Chinese Checkers and Monopoly Junior.

Around seven we went as planned to Mick O'Shea's for burgers, dropped off some stuff for Kathleen at Dougherty's and came back. When we walked in the door a little after nine, the power was still off. Alex went to bed in the dark with a flashlight and I went about connecting the DSL modem to the inverter to get my net-fix.

At 22:04 the power finally came back online and the gaggle of BGE trucks parked around the house all drove away. I hope all the food in the freezer is still good.
