Playa del Fuego Fall 2003

Playa del Fuego Fall 2003 pictures are up.

Playa del Fuego was the weekend of October 10 through the 13 up in Delaware. If you haven't already, check it out at the web site

It's an amazing convergence of fire spinners, artists, performers, sculpture, good people, good music and good vibes.

I've been told that my last minute directions left off one important sentence: "After the last turn there will be confusing signs that you must ignore." Sorry to everyone who got led astray by them. Glad everybody could make it anyway. Thanks to Keith Engle for pointing out what happened.

Thanks to Mike Pittinaro for bringing the amazing trebuchet.

If anyone found Keith Engle's ranger hat (pictured here), please get in touch with him.

If anyone found a Kodak cheapo camera with tons of pictures on it, please write to brokenbear.

We never did the pumpkin carving, unfortunately. Neither did I get to blow one up.

True, thanks for the hot sauce. I tried it again, and as long as I don't swig the stuff, it's pretty good. Rangers, thank you thank you thank you all for the wonderful job you did. I couldn't have asked for a better crew of people. Vees, I think you've really found your calling. Oh, and I figured out why people who followed your detour directions kept getting lost.

I would love to give everyone a great big hug (AGAIN)  This was my 3rd PDF and the best out of them all.  Thanks to ALL the folks that visited both of our camps.  You all really made a huge difference in our weekend! I have a good feeling that perverCity will return with the Cuddle Puddle AND the Bondage area along with some good ole karaoke.  Maybe Builder Bob will have another awesome work of art for burning as well!

Indeed that was the most exciting yet chill PDF I have been to (out of 4 thus far) Thanks to Dusty for the Game Console, the Cash Memorial, the luggage computer and the fireworks, Proximity Suit..... (anything else ?).....I hearby nominate Dustin Smith for the PDF super-enabler award ! Thanks to Ilya for the sick-fun beats at primal phred and the crazy disjointed conversation we had after the burn..... Thanks to Gold Bar, and the not-my-catapult..... Thanks to everyone who came by the stage friday night to chat....This experince plus our desert installation this year has convinced me that the best way to meet people at these events is to stay at one location with a 5000 + mp3 collection, a sound system and a couple of blinky lights....

Thanks everyone for making my PDF experience really great.  I really needed a break from my drudgery existence, and it took about 1/2 a car ride from Long Island to Delaware to fix my attitude.  The weather turned out great, the events were great, Torch Job rocked.  The burns, the drumming, the jello wrestling, the slip n slide, the sun, the firm ground under our feel were all wonderful.   What really made the event for me was all the love I felt from so many people at the event, and I tried to share it back to everyone.  That's what makes an event for me, a feeling that I am a part of the community, that people are happy I am here.  And at a burner event the feeling I get is that what I need to do is to figure out what I would really love to do right now, and that people will support me, and share my joy.   Thanks again for all of you who shared my joy at PDF.

you REALLY wanna know what made everybody's day?   Seeing this glorious sight of a friend getting out of a big van with the GREATEST gifting i've seen...   There was nothing that made Tigger and I more excited (sorry to the lady with the great mint brownies) than seeing buckets after buckets after buckets of gorgeous-smelling roses fill our senses.   You're right. PDF was about being happy to be a burner amongst burners in beautiful weather. I for one had a great, relaxing time filled with happiness over being with people who were also happy to be there. I do wish some of my other friends had made the trip, but they'll be there next time...

Thank you to everyone (and most of all mother nature) for such an awesome time. I'm back at work trying to put a tiny bit of my brain into job stuff, but not really caring. I think this was the kick in the pants I needed to jump start some projects - thanks for the inspiration.

I had like the best time ever at PDF. Special thanks go to Primal Phred folks for giving me the chance to expose the party people to some world class techno music; rangers and everyone who worked while we played; the weather committee for finally getting it right; videogasm for setting up the coolest movie theater in Delaware; all the people who made the magic.

The intense experiences I have at PDF always last & expand. Leaving on Monday, I experience a sadness, a social vacuum and readjustment to default reality. My slightly crispy brain re-ties its synapses. Images of good people doing good things on good faith hyper-iterate behind my eyelids. The embers of the weekend burn still. The drumming and heat blaze in my heart the next days and weeks and months to come. When we leave, we carry that warmth to our localities. Our communities grow bigger, more diverse. We live, reinvigorate, relive, return, and grow. We meet again and again and again, growing increasingly familiar, comfortable, connected.

Lorraine Smith writes:

Thanks everyone. I had a great time. It was hell waking up these past two days. My bed just wasn't feeling right. It was much too soft and way too warm . Definitely too warm.

Jamie Love writes:

this was my best burn ever in so very many ways - again! thank you to all of you - and you know who you are- you are all of you, every single one of you - with your individual beauty, strength, guts, love, and joy.  the southern cooking, the gifts from everyone, giving to everyone, the different kinds of art, the fire, the incredible, unbelievable sun!! I am so happy today and feeling so good.  So many great things happened!  Thank you, every single one of you - all of you are connected to me and I am connected to you and I love you -

There I was, huddled in the damn rental truck, crying, shivering, feeling feverish and ready to puke Sunday afternoon. I didn't know what to do....we had so much stuff for Primal Fred that needed to be tended to and packed up and I wasn't able to move. I finally dragged myself out and did something I don't like doing much -- I asked for help. WOW! FREAKIN' WOW! People came from all over and got the whole camp broken down and packed away in a half hour. I was still crying, but it wasn't because I felt so weak, it was like a Frank Capra moment that completely restores your faith in humanity, friendship and kindness, and I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't stop crying. Thank you Silver, thank you Suz, thank you Dave, thank you Q, thank you Eric, thank you Booger, thank you everybody who came to my and Primal Fred rescue's at the last minute.

Zenodotus writes:

I just want to thank all of you wonderful burners who helped out with the Fire Stack!  The work went so quickly when we all pitched in!  We all share in the warmth of the burn!   And thanks to all of you who helped me and/or Fire Team in one way or another over the weekend.  You know who you are, you wonderful, beautiful people!  Zeno-Hugs for all!

I had a great time at the PDF. My first one. The only thing I've done before that was the actual burning man 2003, which of course was awesome. I had some great jams with people at this PDF, and I enjoyed singing karaoke, meeting a lot of people that I only knew by email, the slip and slide, meeting lots of great people. Can't wait for the next one.

Pete Grauer writes:

Ah, I just wanted to say that PDF was Da-bomb. Thanks to everyone for making it such a good time. I love you!
