Untitled by Christopher Wool

The Baltimore Sun reported on September 17, 2002 that a painting by Christopher Wool called "Untitled" had been removed from the Baltimore Art Museum's contemporary wing because there were complaints that it was a little disturbing in the wake of the World Trade Center attack.

The painting itself is about a dozen feet high and wide, and contains only three stenciled black lines of three letters each reading "TER," "ROR," and "IST" on a white background.

Now for the fun part.

I went with a few of my friends there a few weeks before September 11, 2001 and we all had our pictures taken underneath that painting looking very meanacing. (Before you say anything, remember that for a bunch of semi-cultured twentysomethings in an art museum... it was kind of funny then.)

She got that roll developed just a few days after the attack (after completely forgetting the contents) and couldn't understand why the people behind the counter were giving her the dirtiest looks she ever got in her life.

At least I know I've finally got an FBI file for sure now...
