Suz is going out to the desert in Nevada at the end of August and will only have access to talk to me and Alex back here by way of HF. Does anyone have any helpful tips for how to best reach Nevada with a dipole and 100 watts, and any suggestions for the best frequency and time for a sked.

Some places to visit, thanks to Janet Lee for the suggestions:

South Lake Tahoe. You can day trip all around the lake, and it tends to be cheaper than the North side. I went on a daytrip there once to Emerald Falls. BEAUTIFUL. South/West side of the lake, I think.

On the northside is Carnelian Bay. BREATHTAKING. Best Coast Guard posting I've ever seen.

In Reno, try day tripping to Virginia City. It's an old mining town and the mining tours can be kind of fun.

Try Steamboat Springs Spa in Reno, $14/person for a mineral bath. 130F out of the ground, 115F when it hits the tile. Not too fancy, but comfy. Best time to hit it is post-playa.
