Dave Taylor couldn't understand why computer users need an advocacy group like the Electronic Frontier Foundation to protect our rights. Then I mentioned the DMCA to him and I realized he did understand, when he wrote back:

"We're all lawbreakers because on one side you have people making laws for big business and corporations and on the other side you have people making laws for whiney minorities and special interest groups. Have no illusions, my friend, this government that we pay outrageous taxes to does in no way shape or form represent you or I. When laws are made to protect an individual from himself (seatbelt and helmet laws, for example) or to regulate what people do with their own property (DMCA and a lot of gun laws) then we're headed down the path to rebellion."

I couldn't agree more.
