If only you could see years of civil liberties and privacy rights in the United States going down the toilet. Every morning I drive under an electronic highway sign that reads in foot high letters:

HEIGHTENED
HOMELAND SECURITY
ALERT

REPORT SUSPICIOUS
ACTIVITY
800-492-TIPS

At the toll plazas they give out little slips of paper with the stoolie number on it, and Washington Post columnists are getting stopped and questioned in the street for being dark-skinned and asking questions.
