From Charge Jose Padilla:

Jose Padilla (a.k.a. Abdullah Al Muhajir) was arrested when he arrived at the airport in Chicago after travelling abroad. He was held for approximately a month under a material witness warrant. Then, on June 9, 2002 President Bush signed an order designating Padilla an "enemy combatant".

US District Court Judge Michael Mukasey is wondering why its taking the government so long to compy with his order to let Padilla speak to an attorney. (Link expired)
