trash In December 2002, reporters Chris Lydgate and Nick Budnick took and sorted through the garbage of Portland, OR's Police Chief Mark Kroeker, Mayor Vera Katz and District Attorney Mike Schrunk. The Willamette Week ran the story. The article highlights the lack of privacy inherent in garbage left at the curb, but an interesting sidebar says, "Warrantless trash searches by police are not legal in Vermont and New Jersey."
