Yahoo Messenger

I installed Yahoo Messenger and found it to be a cross between Big Brother and a malignant tumor in my machine. Everything I looked at for the next two hours after the install had a Yahoo logo somewhere on it, and every URL I went to was being logged to their servers. The program downloaded and installed all my Yahoo preferences from their server onto the local program. Yikes! Too much centralization! No thanks. So in the middle of the uninstall, a Yahoo DLL file crashes the uninstall program. It's trying to stay alive, I shout! Unphased, I find the file in question and nuke it by hand. Finally after twenty minutes it was gone, but a dark feeling in my heart makes me think it may still be there. And AOL Instant Messenger and plain old IRC remain my preferred IM systems for now.
