Google

Is Google also Big Brother? The guys at Google Watch seem to think so.

I disagree.

Spyware doesn't announce itself on installation. Google does, and allows you to turn off all the notification stuff.

The cookie is irksome, but if it keeps my Google results coming back in Klingon, more power to them.

If I want privacy, I'll do searches from a browser with cookies turned off at someone else's house, or from a library terminal somewhere.

Is Google also God? Some people seem to think so (from an article in the New York Times):

Says Alan Cohen, a V.P. of Airespace, a new Wi-Fi provider: "If I can operate Google, I can find anything. And with wireless, it means I will be able to find anything, anywhere, anytime. Which is why I say that Google, combined with Wi-Fi, is a little bit like God. God is wireless, God is everywhere and God sees and knows everything. Throughout history, people connected to God without wires. Now, for many questions in the world, you ask Google, and increasingly, you can do it without wires, too."

The Google calculator has a very interesting easter egg.

Thanks to JoAnne Schmitz for the heads up.
