Peter Hamm Parris N. Glendening said that Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's campaign was "one of the worst-run campaigns in the country." To this, her campaign spokesman Peter Hamm responded: "It was disgusting. His comments are proof that we need character education in our schools."
This quote is from Townsend moves on down a different trail by David Nitkin of the Baltimore Sun on November 8, 2002.
What exactly is "character education" in this context? Is character education not speaking your opinion about people in your own party screwing up what could have quite possibly been an easy win for a gal with good name recognition in a state which leaned towards her party for the last 34 years? Is character education silently wallowing in your own errors over and over because everyone is "educated" enough not to point out obvious mistakes?
Character education sounds to me like turning our state's children into a bunch of quiet sheep who don't make waves.
