Edison Schools, Inc.

Edison Schools, Inc. manages three Baltimore City Public Schools: Gilmor Elemetary School, Montebello Elementary School and Furman L. Templeton Elementary School. The Baltimore Sun reports that for the fiscal year ending June 30, Edison reported a net loss of $86 million.

On October 30, 2002, Doug Saunders of the Toronto Globe & Mail reported that Edison Schools, Inc. CEO and founder Chris Whittle believed that there was potential corporate resources available in the form of unpaid student labor. He is reported to have suggested at a meeting of school principals that every student should be forced to work an hour a day in the school offices to help save money.

Edison has also tried to move their corporate executive offices to rooms inside Philadelphia schools to save money, but were forced out by the local school boards.

In Calverton, NY a group called Concerned Parents to Save the Charter School has been established to oppose alleged mismanagement of the Riverehad Charter School.
