Happy birthday to Jon Marcus!

Morty Abzug is giving a talk about Perl. Suz isn't interested in it, so she's just hanging around campus while I watch. It's all basics that I've seen before, so I might just head out of here and hang out with her for a little while and come back for the advanced seminar.

Between the basic and advanced seminar, Suz, Steve Killen, Rebecca Stephen and I went to see the free concert by the UMBC Symphony Orchestra under conductor Wayne Cameron. They performed:

• The Merry Wives of Windsor Overture by Otto Nicolai
• Concerto for Cello in G Minor by George Mattias Monn
• Symphony no. 2 in D Major Op. 36 by Ludwig van Beethoven

Concerto for Cello in G Minor included a marvelous cello performance by 11-year-old Elliot Christopher Mallard. I'm glad I had a chance to see him this early in his career, because it's obvious that this kid will be going places.
