Michael J. Cowdery

Officer Michael J. Cowdery of the Baltimore City Police Department was shot and killed on March 12, 2001 in East Baltimore. Officer Cowdery was working in plain clothes, when he and his partner Tiffany Walker stopped two men on Harford Road for questioning. A man came around a corner and began firing at them with a a .357 Magnum, fatally wounding Cowdery. He was the 104th city officer to die on duty since 1870. Walker and Officer Ronald A. Beverly were also injured in this incident, but have since recovered. Officer Cowdery had been with the department for 4 1/2 years. He is survived by his parents and 10-year-old son. Cowdery was 31 years old.
