Cardin was recently appointed by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to the Select Committee on Homeland Security. The Committee will oversee the newly created Department of Homeland Security, which now includes the TSA.

He wrote to me on May 9, 2003 to say that, "The Committee will strive to protect the civil liberties of all citizens as we defend our country against the threat of terror. I share your concern that Congress must continue to maintain the proper balance between security and the protection of civil rights."

On November 13, 2002 voted in favor of the Homeland Security Act.

On October 11, 2002 voted (unsucessfully) against giving George W. Bush authority to commence military action against Iraq.

Benjamin Cardin is endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund 2002.
