May 12, 2004 - Is the Honda Civic Hybrid not living up to advertising? A dissatisfied blogger reports.

--

On October 7, 2002, I received an e-mail from them with my full name and an e-mail account I never use except in my whois profiles telling me that unless I opted out of their e-mails that I would be added to their mailing list. When I sent back a nasty reply telling them to use double opt-in and not to mail me ever again, they took it as a confirmation and started sending me more messages.

On October 15, 2002, I called Terry Askin at O'Donnell Honda to ask why I was on the list. He said that he couldn't really help me since they weren't directly affiliated with Honda, but he would call back and look into it. He called back on October 21, 2002 to tell me I probably signed up for their web service package when I bought my car (which isn't impossible, although I can't fathom using my other e-mail address for it) and they just now finished the system and polled all their customers to sign up. I still believe that their out-put policy is upsetting to customers and ought to be changed.

How did you get this e-mail address?

Let me give you a tip: double opt-in preserves customer love. Making your customers do something to NOT be bothered by you results in bad public relations.
