Playa del Fuego Fall 2002

My photographs from Playa del Fuego are online. Follow the links at the beginning of each paragraph to see the galleries.

PDF Craft Night - We got together at my house for a night of crafty fun making greeter items, shrinky-dinks (you got one, right?) and camera tags.

Exposition Fall 2002 - Saturday, when the scurrying of little burners can be heard squishing through the ankle-deep mud, propping tents and building domes.

Fashion Show Fall 2002 - Ticket mistress Suzanne Henderson steals the show again with her Playa del Fuego burner fashion show.

Bonfire Fall 2002 - The climax of the weekend, held this time on Saturday to accomodate us poor souls who had to return to work on Monday morning. A fine creation thanks to our fire-stack coordinator Jason Claiborne and everyone who helped him make this a reality.

Denouement Fall 2002 - Sleepy from a night of festivities, the burner crowd slowly wakes into a new day, foraging for food, playing sports, lounging, birdwatching and cooking up a storm.

Jim Hancocks UV Art - Displayed all weekend in Psycho Boy's van camp, Jim Hancocks' first attempts at UV painting are completely captivating. Thanks to Jim for letting me show them in my gallery.

The Good -- Special thanks to all the people who really made this event wonderful:

Suzanne Henderson, as usual the most amazing part of my weekend. Jason Claiborne for your tireless effort with the fire stack and all the hard work you do. Rachel Claiborne for all your envelope stuffing before and being stuck between the rock and hard place of Burners and Veterans. Splinter for always making me feel like my efforts aren't in vain. Monk E for being totally cool about our concerns with the neighbors and keeping a fair and responsible leash on the music all night, and still giving us a rocking good time all over the site. Vic Coffin for all his travels, hard work, and helping me out of a tight spot. John Cocula for a fun shift together. Mike Clayberg for Gold Bar and his unending hospitality! Steve Killen for heading up the greeters and kicking ass. Jamie Love for doing the greeter thing and keeping my blood sugar through the roof with Halloween Camp. Dustin Smith for taking that awesome picture of me and Suz by the fire. Ranger Fatboy for always being there for us, and flying all the way out to Delaware to keep people from leaping into the bonfire. Thanks to Justin Sabe for coordinating the rangers and to Amy LaPerle for all the help on the camera tags! DC Lynn for all her good feelings and open heart, you'll always be an east-coastie to us. Andy Wing for the salmon at the greeter tent and for that amazing effigy. Fred Merrill for making life a little more surreal with your dragons. Sierra for coordinating the entire New York theme camp area towards the back of the site and getting everybody in the right place. Paul Taylor for all his hard work even when he's trying not to work so hard. Knarphie and Liza for kicking ass at DPW. Silverhair for the eggs. Jonathan Marcus for the pancakes. Kathleen Ellis for the nf0 camp. Peter Johansson for the Sensorium, in spite of the rain and angst. Blue for the scams, even though I missed them. Magorn for showing that Suz's spirit isn't lost on the Chicago crew and making the 900 mile trip while clawing his way through law school. Thanks to Ripcord for not beating the crap out of me, and I wish we both didn't have such rough tempers sometimes. Thanks to Dave Diller, Steph Bean, Vergil Bushnell, Rebecca Stephen, Leah Marcus, Malcolm Pettus, Alicia Miziolek, Ben Sarsgard, Psycho Boy, John Bristol and everybody else who came and had a good time with me. Thanks to everybody who signed up for a camera tag, and used it. Thanks to everybody who didn't get too drunk or too stoned and made my Sunday morning shift bearable by going to sleep. Thanks for being a wonderful bunch of people!

The Bad -- If you don't respect me, at least respect us:

Fuck off, participant! I won't name names because you all know who you are already. You are no more special than anyone else. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are not alone in having treated us all like we were morons this weekend. You may have been there and done that, but you're here and now at our event and not even showing the slightest bit of respect to the pressures that we have to stay in the good graces of our hosts. Don't blow off the people trying to make things work smoothly just to complain that you don't have enough time and you didn't understand the directions. We are all spending our fun time to help you understand. If you ignore an entire tent full of enthusiastic greeters, I'm going to get in your face. Deal with it. If we lose the good graces of our hosts, it isn't because I didn't try to pound it into all your heads to be a little considerate. And a special whap with the cluestick to the liar. Please don't lie to my face again. I am "them." I know what "they" told you.

That's all the ranting I have in me. Now back to my burningass.
