Happy birthday Leah Marcus!

Today was Leah Marcus's birthday party at Last Chance. After I got home, we all left right away to go to Suz's mom's house to help her shift her work area from the basement to one of the upper floors where things aren't as damp and icky.

She volunteered to take care of Alex since she didn't have school the next morning, which meant that Suz and I could go down to Columbia, MD and join everybody. Suz mentioned in passing that she didn't have her ID, but I told her since it's a pub they have a little leeway and that every time I'd ever been there they'd never carded me to get in the door, just if I ordered a drink.

Well we got all the way there (about an hour of driving from Parkville) and a woman at the front door asks to see her ID. It turns out that they've been dinged by the Howard County Police Department for having underage drinkers in on their $2 draft Thursday nights, and the only night they card everyone coming in the door is on Thursdays.

We explain to the lady at the door and to the waiter that we really can't go back for her ID, and she would promise not to drink anything that night. They wouldn't agree and even the manager wasn't able to make an exception since he had never seen Suz before in his life. So Leah decided that if Suz couldn't come in to her party, she would move the party elsewhere.

So we did, and 20 minutes later we were celebrating Leah's birthday at Ellicott Mills Brewing Company in Old Ellicott City. A good time was had over large pitchers of beer and hot wings and everybody got home safe. Yay for Leah!

In the political news, it looks like Mike Fisher is upset that third party candidates put on a better show than he does and wants them barred from future debates.
