I completely agree with what James Lileks wrote about the New Jersey election. Especially when it comes to election law, I'm sick of people changing the rules because the technicalities (which I'm sure seemed quite reasonable when they thought the "other guy" would get snared in them) are suddenly pointing towards your demoralized candidate and party. As much as I'd hate to see Republican control of the Senate, if the Democrats get to put another person in his place, it'll be a serious loss to the percieved value of suffrage to New Jersey voters, even if they don't realize it right away.

In related news, the "U.S. Does Whatever It Wants" plan presented to the United Nations today.

Five people have been killed today in shootings in Montgomery County. Thanks to Maria Iano for the lead.

Montana's Libertarian candidate for Senate Stan Jones has turned blue from drinking a silver solution that he believed would protect him from disease.

Libertarian candidate for Pennsylvania governor Ken Krawchuk believes the best way to combat recent armed rapes at the University of Pittsburgh is to arm co-eds. Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Columnist Dimitri Vassilaros puts it succinctly, "Potential predators would know that if they try to attack students from that school, they could be fired on by co-eds with handguns."

Peter Johansson wrote to comment, "Unfortunately handguns are a very poor choice in a rape situation. Self defense techniques and mace are a far better way to fend off an opponent at close range." I agree and I also believe it's still a good thing that someone is telling women they have the right to defend themselves the any way they choose.
