Evolutionary Programming in Business Knowledge Management Systems

Thesis:

Two new technologies, knowledge management systems and evolutionary programming, are changing the nature of business application development. Business knowledge management systems increase corporate efficiency by allowing employees to adapt more quickly to a changing business environment and avoid repeating costly mistakes. New evolutionary programming methods allow a programmer to “breed” applications able to maintain efficiency within a changing set of environmental rule using a key principle of biological evolution: competition for scarce resources.

The design of an effective knowledge system requires a good understanding of the business logic and the most relevant set of metadata schemas to interrelate a comprehensive knowledge base. In many industries, business rules change with increasing frequency, quickly leaving even the most well designed knowledge management system lagging behind the corporation’s operating principles. An evolutionary programming system designed towards evolving within the changing constraints of business logic has the potential to be an invaluable business tool in the coming decade.
