Spear Lancaster On November 5, 2002, he received 11,052 votes (0.67%) for Governor. I believe this had a lot to do with the fact that the race was so tight that even people who wanted to give him their support wanted to avoid not voting against one of the major candidates. An election-day result of 1 per cent (about 5,500 additional votes) would have resulted in continued ballot status for the Libertarian party.
I endorse Libertarian candidate Spear Lancaster for Governor of Maryland. Robert Fustero endorsed Spear Lancaster for Governor in 2002.
See Spear Lancaster's campaign site for Governor of Maryland in 2002.
October 30, 2002: Two articles published today, "Libertarian candidate not discouraged by polls" by Sam Hedenberg and Mary C. Schneidau of The Diamondback (University of Maryland) and "Libertarian's run for governor is all uphill: Lancaster gets his name on ballot, aims to inspire others with campaign" by Howard Libit of the Baltimore Sun.
On October 28, 2002, he had a rough time on the Marc Steiner show when it came to the subject of Education.
On October 23, 2002, Baltimore City Paper ran an article about the Lancaster campaign titled Odd Man Out by Van Smith.
On October 18, 2002, the Montgomery County Gazette ran an article titled Lancaster promotes small government and streamlined budget by Andrew Childers.
He is being largely ignored by the media and was left out of the Governors debates. Read my Letter to the NAACP, September 23, 2002 complaining that he was left out of the September 26, 2002 debates.
