Drug Enforcement Agency December 15, 2003 - A former high-ranking Drug Enforcement
Administration official was named in a 214-count indictment on Monday
that accused him of embezzling DEA funds and using federal resources to
conduct work for a private investigations firm.
On August 23, 2002, Michigan Congressman John Conyers, Jr. requested an immediate investigation by the head of the Drug Enforcement Agency, Asa Hutchinson, of DEA's possible misuse of federal funds to spread a message or promote a campaign against a ballot initiative, on federal property and on government time.
On August 27, 2002, I wrote a letter to Elijah Cummings urging him to support Conyers in his efforts.
December 16, 2002 - SecurityFocus reports that Emilio Calatayud, a former DEA employee, has received a 27-month prison sentence for selling information from three sensitive law enforcement databases to an investigative service. Calatayud will also pay a $5,000 fine.
