Crystal D. Sheffield

Baltimore City Police Department officer Crystal D. Sheffield died on August 22, 2002 from injuries sustained in the line of duty on August 21, 2002 while responding to a call for help from another officer.

At 23:30, Sheffield was responding to assist an officer control a dispute on a street corner. She was heading RLS east on Lafayette Avenue turning on to Carey Street through a red light when her vehicle was struck by an unmarked cruiser en route to the same location.

Sheffield died from her injuries at 11:20 at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Sheffield graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School in 1984 and joined the force in 1999 at the age of 32.

She is survived by her husband Baltimore City Fire Department lieutenant William A. Sheffield, her brother community relations division officer Frederick Allen, her sister Baltimore City Police Department Central District lieutenant Barbara A. Magness, and her 11 year old son Darian Sheffield.

She was 35.
