Rhythm Festival

Posted here with permission from Christy Thorndill. This event is going on this weekend!

All are hereby invited to participate in a rockin' parade at the Baltimore International Rhythm and Drumming Society's annual fall Rhythm Festival. The bad news is, it's a daytime parade, and hence not so fire-oriented....but the good news is, there will be a buttload of people drumming up a storm, and you can drum, dance, walk on your hands, carry a giant puppet (provided by us), or spin your streamer equipment. Basically any flamboyant thing you might like to do while travelling very slowly is a go. You can just show up--and bring your friends!

The parade is Saturday, October 5, 2002, and gathering begins at 11am at the "beach", that big grassy field on the Johns Hopkins University campus, right in front of the library, along the 3200 block of North Charles Street (just North of the Baltimore Museum of Art). FYI, we will have the streets blocked for the area of the procession, so we can spread out as much as we want.

The Rhythm Festival itself starts after the parade, and goes all day. It's on 27th Street between Saint Paul Street and North Charles Street, and inside St. John's Church, on the same block. There are outdoor vendors, a drum circle, and a small outdoor stage with stuff going on all day. There are also paid indoor workshops on various drumming and dancing things during the daytime, as well as an awesome indoor evening rhythm concert & drum jam. Even if you can't make the parade, please come check out the festival, it's GRRREAT! Information on the evening concert is currently available on the BIRDS website, and full info should be posted soon. www.drumtogether.net

This parade is a joint project of the BIRDS and The Living Tree Foundation, a newly-organized nonprofit here in Baltimore. We are starting a community resource sharing center for positivity and growth in downtown Baltimore, to bring people together and foster health and happiness through the arts, music, dance, yoga, celebration, meditation, healthy eating, job training, volunteerism, and community outreach. There are tons of opportunities for involvement as a volunteer for people with all sorts of skills, and at all levels of time & energy committment. We're also throwing all sorts of amazing events, open mics, art shows, and classes that YOU are going to want to come to! So please, join our email list (which we use for announcements only, it's NOT a group list). LivingTreeFoundation@hotmail.com

Peace and Blessings,
Christy Thorndill
