San Francisco, CA Thoughts from Sean Rutledge:
In San Francisco. My favorite neighborhood is the Upper Haight. Daytime is best, it tends to get very seedy at night and all the shops close up. If you
are there over the weekend, the end of Golden Gate Park next to the Haight
is a great place to hang out. Late afternoons will find drummers and lots of
people just hanging out on Hippie Hill. Everytime I go to SF, I go to Hippie
Hill on Sunday afternoon. Bring your poi.
I find Fisherman's Wharf to be a typical tourist trap and ALWAYS avoid it.
The view from around Coit Tower is great. Walk there from the bay and up the
stairs. They go on for blocks, then come down the other side to North Beach.
I like going to the Sutro baths as well. They have a really cool little
museum there and a penny museum that rocks. Check out Laughing Sally.
If you want to check out some fancy shopping, go to the Union Square area.
If you want some really cheap shopping, go to Chinatown.
If the weather is warm, check out Baker Beach in the afternoon. It is a
great place to hang out. And if you are still in a Burning Man mood, move up
on the beach toward the Golden Gate Bridge, it is the clothing optional
area. But don't go in the water, it is COLD!
I like Berkeley, CA as well. Telegraph Avenue is where all the color is.
A nice short drive in the SF area is 92 over the hill to Half Moon Bay, then
up to San Francisco. Half Moon Bay during the week is a sleepy little town
where the laid back folks live to escape the hustle and bustle of Silicon
Valley. I like to go stop in Moss Beach and go down to the ocean and climb
the cliffs while watching huge waves crash on the rocks. Don't go over the
weekend. Horrendous crowds of day trippers.
Thoughts from Dave Diller:
If you ever want breakfast, go to Kate's Kitchen at 471 (Lower) Haight. It's eminently worth the trip, I guarantee you won't be hungry for a Very long time, plus the neighborhood is fun(ky).
